Procurement clerks accumulate requirements for materials, arrange purchase orders, maintain supplies and purchases, and handle the order queries. Procurement clerks are also known as purchasing technicians or purchasing clerks because their job responsibility involves a wide range of tasks related to ordering goods and supplies for the company or organization. The role of a procurement clerk is also to ensure that the purchased items arrive on schedule and meets the specifications of the purchaser.

Generally, the procurement clerks only process purchase requests. These clerks first settle on whether there is any requested product pending in the stock, they then find suppliers by using the internet or catalogs. Procurement clerks also may have to meet potential suppliers face-to-face or contact them over the phone in order to check prices and conditions. The clerk then prepares spreadsheets and compares the price and other factors about each supplier.
