Planner careers are slowly growing in the country since there are no shortages of various events such as parties, weddings, and conventions. In order to have a successful and meaningful event, having a well thought out plan is a must. The demand for people who are capable and experienced in planning such grandiose and extensive events thus become apparent and that’s why more and more people both professionals and non-professionals are slowly becoming interested in getting into the business of planning events.

The most lucrative among the various event planning opportunities in the country are in the areas of convention planning and wedding planning. These kinds of events require an extensive number of things to do and people to be coordinated with in order to have a smooth sailing event. Having a considerable wide connection with various businesses that can provide the needed materials and work force in planning a certain event will be an advantage for someone who considers venturing in to planner careers.

Landing a job in event planning does not necessarily require completion of a specialized course but background in business management or administration would be beneficial. Planner employment does not have cut out requirements for interested candidates but completing coursework in advertising, hospitality law, sports management, or any managing events-related course as well as acquiring certification as a Certified Meeting Planner (CMP) or Certified Special Events Professional (CSEP) would be an edge over other aspiring candidates. Being a graduate from an accredited college or university as well as good internship and apprenticeship experience from an event-planning company also contributes to a candidate’s qualification. In applying for an internship program, make sure that after the internship you are able to build your confidence and gain practical experience and most importantly develop networking connections with potential business references and contacts. It is through this internship program where you will be exposed to the nitty-gritty of the business thus careful attention and determination should be given during this period. Helping out in formal events in your city or locality as well as in simple family or friend gathering can also help in building up your portfolio of experiences. These events can lead to promising planner careers in the future. Before launching your career in event planning, the most important thing to do first is to decide what kinds of events you would like to plan. Once you have decided what type of event you would do then you can develop a resume that would exhibit your knowledge and experiences in that specific field. Applying for an entry-level position at an event planning firm would give you the experience and knowledge needed to prepare you for the future if you decide to put up your own event-planning firm. Networking is highly beneficial in planner jobs since it can make or break the event you are planning. Keeping a reliable notebook where you write down all the important things needed for the event will be helpful in making sure that you got every detail for the event covered. Hiring assistants and/or helpers especially for big and elaborate events will make your life easier and helps you stay sane just before and during the event. Assistants/helpers can do last minute errands and offer sound suggestions should there be any trouble minutes prior to the event. Coordinating with your assistant/helper will minimize the chances of forgetting minor or major detail for the event. Having very good communication and interpersonal skills will prove to be useful in this career. A good time management skill and keen attention to detail is a sure formula to be successful in event planning career.

Now that we are in the era where throwing parties has become ordinary and common, it cannot be denied that these parties have evolved over time. From simple parties to ostentatious events, this was made possible by planners who have creativity and outstanding talent.
